IBWAA SELECTS PIAZZA IN 2013 HALL OF FAME VOTE

 

Los Angeles – In its 2013 Hall of Fame election the Internet Baseball Writers Association of America (IBWAA) selected Mike Piazza, with 79.10% of the vote. While no other player managed the required 75% threshold, Craig Biggio was closest with 64.18%.

 

Roger Clemens finished in third place, with 52.24%.  Jeff Bagwell and Barry Bonds tied for fourth at 50.75%. Complete results below.

 

The IBWAA selected Bert Blyleven in 2010 and Roberto Alomar in 2011. No player tallied 75% in 2012. Though he was elected by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America (BBWAA) in 2012, Barry Larkin remains on the IBWAA ballot.

 

Beginning with this election, the IBWAA added voting for “special consideration” candidates, those normally associated with the National Baseball Hall of Fame’s Veterans and Era Committees. This year’s candidates were Buzzie Bavasi, Gil Hodges, Tom Kelly, Marvin Miller, Danny Murtaugh and Vada Pinson.

Los Angeles – The Internet Baseball Writers Association of America (IBWAA) announced the winners in the relief pitcher category Friday, with Atlanta Braves Craig Kimbrel receiving the organization’s own National League Hoyt Wilhelm Relief Pitcher of the Year Award, and Fernando Rodney, of the Tampa Bay Rays, being selected as the American League Rollie Fingers Relief Pitcher of the Year.

 

The IBWAA established the relief pitcher awards in 2010. Kimbrel was also the 2011 winner.

With voting for season awards in progress and the launching of a new website today, the Internet Baseball Writers Association of America (IBWAA) is encouraging new members to join.
While you don’t get anything special, you will be eligible to vote in the current election. The sooner the better, because you’ll have 10 ballots to fill out, including MVP, Cy, rookie, manager and relief pitcher awards for NL and AL. Join by the final day of the regular season, October 3, 2012, email your selections by 9:00 p.m. PST, and consider yourself a full-fledged member of the IBWAA.

All online baseball writers are welcome, from publications large and small, including those covering minor league and amateur ball, and those working full-time, part-time and as unpaid contributors.

But the central artifact of the game - the home run ball - landed in the grandstand and vanished without a trace.  For more than half a century, its fate became a tall tale of baseball lore to historians, collectors and fans alike.
